Hello there! ⍟
The city I’m going to stay in will be Iowa City.
Iowa City is the former capital of Iowa before it was changed to Des Moines in 1857. It’s population is about 70,133 and it’s ranked as the 5th biggest city in Iowa. Also it’s about 300, 000 kilometers away from Chicago so hopefully I’ll go there at least once.
I will attend the public high school City High, which has many courses that really interest me, such as Acting, Painting, Graphic design, Photography or Creative Writing.
My first host family seems nice, my host mother has sent me a really long and informative e-mail, but unfortunately they don’t have children in my age, their two children are already grown-ups. There seem to be some other kids in the neighborhood though.
Then my own family also got the first information about the exchange students who will live with them. First it’s a boy from Canada and then it’ll be a girl from Taiwan. They both seem really nice, especially the boy can get along well with my brother since they’re at the same age.
We have quite a few things to deal with now.
For example getting the visa, or the leave of absence from my school. Apparently I have to go through an interview with the American consulate here, to check if I’m a terrorist or not.
Pretty ridicules, they’ll ask questions like “Do you have any weapons of mass destruction?”
Yeah, as if haha! But I have to do it anyway.
With this new information, I
feel a lot better than I did before.
Well, of course the city is small, much smaller than my hometown. But as long as the people are nice, who cares? Yeah, I really think so now, can you actually believe it? I mean, I definitely want to visit the bigger cities but I don’t think it’s necessary to live in one, and my friend doesn’t go to New Jersey either, it somehow changed to a French district in Canada! So I can be lucky that I didn’t get that. Yeah, I’m much more positive right now.

Let it come! 76 days to go!
