On
the 25th
of January I turned seventeen.
It
still feels weird, and I'm sure I will have to get used to that a few
months to really realize it, but I have to say it was an amazing
birthday weekend!
The first thing that happened on Saturday (the day before my birthday) was that El came and took me somewhere. I had no idea what it was or where it was, just that it was her birthday surprise for me. It turned out to be Formosa, the best Sushi place in town! Now, not everyone might understand the significance of going out for Sushi like we do, but it really became our thing to go out for Sushi with our favorite people. Not everyone likes Sushi so it's even more amazing that we get to share that here. Thank you so much and love you El! ♥

After
that we had a slumber party.
So
we walked back to my house and Emma from France had already arrived.
More and more people came until we were seven people in total:
Eleonora, Emma, Alberta, Timea, Ivona, Vicky and me. Since most of
them live in different cities it was awesome to see them again. We
talked and talked and talked, played just dance, Apples to Apples,
had pizza and presents, watched a movie, and then it finally was
12:00 o'clock, and just like that – I was seventeen.
Going
night sledding.
The
night was long, and the next day after breakfast everyone slowly
left. After a two hour skype call with my family in Germany I had a
traditional Iowa dinner with my host family (which by the way changed
again, it's another story). Then I went night sledding with my two
host sisters. It was really fun, we just rolled in the snow and it
was a bright and clear night. Luckily it wasn't even that cold. Two
weeks ago it was -30 degrees Celsius, I'm not even kidding or
exaggerating or anything. This week it got much warmer. But there is
a saying that my second host mum used to say a lot: “If you don't
like the weather in Iowa, wait a minute!”
And it's so true. It literally changes every day, it's unpredictable. Talking about my second host mum, she also came in for a few minutes Sunday evening, just to bring some cookies and say Happy Birthday. She's so great and I'm looking forward to staying with her again (Don't worry, it will all get explained in another blogpost).

Anyway,
so that was my awesome birthday weekend!
Stay tuned!
Bye ⍟
