The
terrible winter is finally coming to an end, and Spring Break
arrived.
Stay tuned!
So
in Germany we only have a six week summer but we have Fall, Christmas
and Easter holidays which are two weeks each. Here there aren't very many long holidays, because of the long summer. To be honest I prefer it
to be more distributed around the year, it just makes a little more
sense to me. So when Spring Break came, I was really ready for some
time off. Unfortunately it was only a week, but we used every day a
100 percent.
We
got up at 6 AM, jumped in the car and off we went.
Here's
our Route:
Iowa
City→ Illinois →
Indiana → First stop: South Bend,
Notre Dame University
Then
we went on:
→ Ohio
→ Pennsylvania →
Pittsburgh (for the night) → Virginia
→ Next stop: Middleburg
→ After
this long drive, we finally arrived in Washington, D.C.
The
Capitol of the U.S! We did it! For three days we stayed there and it
was amazing. All the buildings were huge and impressive, not in a New
York City way with lots of skyscrapers, but it just had it's own
imposing appeal. There was so much to see and to do, we were busy all
day. We went to a lot of museums, went to see all the memorials, took
a tour through the Capitol, met the Iowa Senators and went on a
Ferris wheel.
→ Next
stop: Fallingwater
Fallingwater
in Pennsylvania is a famous architectural building from 1935. First I
was a little skeptical, to take a whole tour just through one house,
but when we went inside, it really paid off. The furniture and the
arrangement, the location and the setting was just so perfect. It
creates a bound with the nature, it's peaceful, beautiful and smart.
It really would be my dream summer house. Unfortunately I wasn't
allowed to take pictures inside the house, but if you are ever in the
area and you are interested in architecture, I would definitely take
a visit there.
→ Last
stop: Pittsburgh
Even
though we stopped there in the first drive, we didn't see anything
from the city itself. This time we visited the Strip District of
Pittsburgh (it's not as inappropriate as it sounds) and after dinner
my host mum's sister took us to the Duquesne Incline. It's an old
incline that the steel workers used in the past. And oh my god, the
view was incredible. The whole moment was just magical, it was the
best possible way to end this Spring Break trip. And yes, you can now
be officially jealous.
