Prom!

Hello there!

Saturday, May 2nd was the City High Prom.
Prom, the typical American High School event that everybody knows from the movies. Students plan it months and months ahead, finding the right dress, shoes, date, group and so on. For me only finding a dress was already hard.
So while I was busy with soccer, rotary and things like that, everyone else planned it all out: everyone had their whole outfit together, guys asked girls out in such cute ways, people were setting up their group for the pictures, and I just kept on believing that there still was enough time.
Yep, I was pretty much the last one to get the dress, shoes, date and group, but I was able to get them all!

My “outfit”
Me and Eleonora tried on a few dresses before, so I thought we would buy one together later on. But when she was in Chicago she bought a dress, and I kind of forgot about it. Two weeks before Prom, I told my host mom: “We need to go dress shopping!” So we went. And guess what? Almost all of the dresses were gone so the selection was very limited. We went to store after store and I didn't like any of the dresses. They were too sparkly and glittery and bright, and if I did find one that I liked, it was either too big or too expensive. Later on though, I realized that I couldn't be that picky anymore so I just chose one that was a good price, fit well and was okay looking. Not perfect, but it worked.
For my shoes I really didn't care too much, so I just picked some that weren't too high of a heel, kind of matched with the dress and, again, weren't expensive. See, I just didn't want to spend that much money on something that I probably wouldn't wear that often anymore.
And luckily for my hair, my lovely counselor Deb got me a hair appointment so I didn't have to worry about that at all. I wasn't a 100% satisfied with how my hair looked, but oh well, just like the other things, it wasn't perfect but not terrible.

My “people”
So I guess you are all wondering who my date was! And it isn't real exciting, it was Conor, my host brother haha. He doesn't live at home so he doesn't really feel like a brother, but the fact that his parents were my host parents made a lot of things easier. Kris, my host mom, helped me to plan and communicate and also got the Corsage & Boutonniere (the fancy flowers that the girl has on her wrist and the boy on his tux, they match each other so that people can see who is who's date).
Our group involved Eleonora and her date Leo, our good friends Lizzie and Anna with her date, and also Lizzie's friend Alayna and her date. It was an awesome group!

How it went
We got ready at Lizzie's house, took photos in front of the “Prom tree”, went to dinner at Formosa (Iowa City's best sushi place), went to Prom, danced and had fun, then went back to Lizzie's house and then went to After Prom, came back to Eleonora's house at 5 a.m, slept for a few hours and then went to Deb's house who was having an Open House party for us.

Completely busy weekend, but definitely a lot of fun. It was the real American experience and the next thing coming up will be graduation, which I am even more excited for than for Prom!

Stay tuned!

Bye
